Most notably today we have added a French and a German interface translation.

ViewRanger beta

posted by Mike Brocklehurst on Monday, November 02, 2009

We are about to release a new beta version of ViewRanger.

To register to use the beta please email your phone model name (for example, Nokia N97) and IMEI number (which you can obtain by dialling *#06#) to support@viewranger.com. The beta is open to customers and people who would like to try ViewRanger.

There are 40 changes in the beta, full details are in the wiki. The main changes are:

Electronic compasses

ViewRanger now supports the electronic compass in phones such as the N97, 6210 and i8910HD. The compass is shown on the map, so you can align the map with what is around you. The compass can also be used for navigation and can be shown in the trip view.

Most usefully the panorama is linked to the compass, so the panorama lines up with the direction the phone is pointing, and follows the phone as you pan around you.

Changing phones and over the air maps

When you change phones you can now use the map tiles that you downloaded on your old phone simply by entering a new license key. You no longer need to re-download the map tiles.

Retrieva tracker support

There are a number of small changes to make it easier to use ViewRanger with Retreiva trackers.

Kinetic scrolling in lists

On phones that support kinetic scrolling, you can now use kinetic scrolling in lists.
