Our new Route Library Search

posted by cw on Tuesday, February 10, 2009

The software update (ViewRanger V2.6) we have just issued, includes an extension to our Route Manager.

We're partnering with (and seeking to partner with more) publishers of walking, cycling, horse-riding and other guided routes. Our first partner content to be launched is Walkingworld - who bring over 4500 guided walks across the UK.

(Shows Route Search in ViewRanger on Nokia 5800 touch screen handset)

Now its simple to find a great walking route nearby.

Route Search uses your location to search our growing library of guided routes. You can then browse their details, before choosing the route(s) to download direct to your handset.

If you are a publisher or owner of guided route content for anywhere in Europe - then contact us.

SiRF to be merged into CSR

posted by cw on Tuesday, February 10, 2009

In a move that brings together the leader in Bluetooth chipsets and the leader in GPS chipsets, CSR and SiRF have announced they are merging into an enlarged CSR group (subject to approvals).

With CSR's existing relationships with so many mobile device OEMs, and the skills and experience of CSR's silicon engineering and commercial teams - added to SiRFs GPS experience - this must represent a significant step forward in the effort to get GPS into more and more handsets.

CSR was founded and remains headquartered in Cambridge, UK - Cambridge is also where ViewRanger is based.
