Augmentra Maps New ‘Smart Travel Guides’ for the AA

posted by cw on Monday, April 23, 2007

We're very excited to let you in on a significant new project that we've been working on. Augmentra, the developer behind ViewRanger, and the AA, the market leaders in atlases, maps and travel guides, are together developing new interactive mobile-phone travel guide products. AA Smart TravelGuide, unveiled by the AA at the London Book Fair last week, delivers rich travel guide information designed to help tourists and travellers make the most of their trip.

AA Smart TravelGuide provides the user with detailed full-colour street mapping and a wealth of useful travel information compiled by the AA’s travel experts. It includes “must see” sights, easy-to-follow walking tours, what to do, restaurants, entertainment, and places to stay, plus colour photos, and live phone and web links to featured sights. AA hotel and restaurant ratings are included to keep the traveller fully informed.

Simon Davies, General Manager, AA Publishing, commented "AA Publishing is very pleased to be moving into the realm of electronic publishing with the launch of Smart TravelGuide, and we believe Augmentra are the perfect partner to work with us on such an exciting new project".

AA Publishing is Britain’s largest travel publisher and world famous for an extensive range of travel publications and guides. AA Publishing is a division of the Automobile Association, Britain’s largest motoring organisation.

We'll reveal more as the consumer launch approaches.

Beta update 2.3.8

posted by Mike Brocklehurst on Wednesday, April 18, 2007

The ViewRanger beta has been updated to version 2.3.8. This beta fixes some problems in the previous beta, and also adds a few small changes.

Of note:
  • Tracks are now saved to GPX correctly.
  • Three default trip profiles are provided.
  • The old style navigation view has been removed.
  • Hide all except selected commands have been added, which hide all the overly items except for the one that is currently selected.
  • Degrees and decimal minutes is available as a coordinate display and entry option.
  • The red end call button now hides ViewRanger rather than exiting (3rd edition handsets only).
  • The last track that was recorded is automatically hidden when a new track is started. The track can be unhidden.

The beta is available on the usual beta page. If you don't have the link to that page and would like access to the beta then please email support@viewranger.com, likewise if you have any questions or feedback.

posted by Mike Brocklehurst on Wednesday, April 04, 2007

It's nearly Easter and the weather forecast is looking good!

There are no post deliveries on Good Friday or Easter Monday. Orders placed before 9am Saturday should be with you for Tuesday. And any orders after that will be posted on Tuesday. GPS orders will take longer than this.

If you have an urgent order that does not fit in these timescales please email us (sales@viewranger.com) or call 020 7193 7233 as we may be able to arrange a download for you.

The support phone line is manned on Good Friday, and we will check and answer email regularly over the whole Easter weekend.

Have a great Easter!
Mike.
