Software update 2.2.15

posted by Mike Brocklehurst on Tuesday, November 28, 2006

We've just made a number of additional changes to ViewRanger 2.2, most of which arose from customer feedback. The software is version 2.2.15 and is available from the update page (email support@viewranger.com if you need the link).

The changes are described in detail in ViewRanger_changes_2_2_15.pdf (20Kb PDF).

In summary the main changes are:
  • A new Previous view menu item has been added, which allows you to swap between two different map views - that is combinations of map position, scale and zoom.
  • Improvements to deleting waypoints when creating or editing routes. When creating a route, you can delete the waypoint just created by pressing the delete key C.
  • A setting to draw lines and waypoints thicker has been added, to make them clearer on phones with small pixels such as the N80.
  • Settings have been added to allow you to customise the behaviour of some of the numeric shortcut keys.
  • When you import a GPX file a count of the POIs, routes and tracks the file contains is shown and you are asked whether you want to import it.

Augmentra Creates OSi StreetSmart – A Smarter Way to Explore Dublin

posted by cw on Sunday, November 12, 2006

Augmentra has delivered OSi StreetSmart, a revolutionary mobile phone based city mapping and information solution, for Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSi) in partnership with Fáilte Ireland (the Ireland National Tourism Development Authority). OSi StreetSmart, which makes Ordnance Survey Ireland maps and Fáilte Ireland Point-of-Interest (POI) data available on smartphones for the very first time, was launched by Geraldine Ruane, OSi Chief Executive, and Rosanna Davison, Miss World and Irish celebrity, at the Toys 4 Big Boys Show held this weekend at the RDS Irish International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Dublin.

OSi StreetSmart provides the user with detailed street maps and information on hundreds of attractions and places to visit. The GPS compatible mapping application, which uses OSi’s latest Dublin Street Guide will greatly benefit tourists and anyone who lives, works or is interested in getting to know Dublin a little bit better.

OSi StreetSmart includes hundreds of searchable Fáilte Ireland Points-of-Interest including museums, historic buildings, gardens, day tours, parks, and top visitor attractions. Each attraction includes a phone number (with click-to-call option), address, and informative description. Users have the option of connecting over-the-air to access photos and extra information on each attraction and to download new POIs.

As well as accessing information provided by Fáilte Ireland, OSi StreetSmart users can create and share new POI and add their own photographs and comments through the over-the-air OSi StreetSmart Information Exchange. This allows contributions to be added by visitors to Dublin, experiences to be shared, and favourite places to be exchanged.

OSi StreetSmart is based on Augmentra’s DataRanger mapping, navigation and information mobile technology platform. Based on the same technical platform, ViewRanger, Augmentra’s smartphone-based off-road sat-nav application was recently awarded Best Location-Aware Service & Application by Nokia and Symbian in Nokia’s S60 3rd Edition Global Challenge to find the best smartphone applications.
